Fuel Fund Turns Positive for First Time in 4 Years, Rushes to Draft New Crisis Plan
The Fuel Fund has returned to a positive status for the first time in 4 years, with a balance of 505 million baht as of February 1, 2026. The fund previously experienced significant negative balances, reaching a record low of 132,671 million baht on November 27, 2022. The fund has been subsidizing diesel and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices below actual costs according to government policy to alleviate public hardship, resulting in current total liabilities of 61,543 million baht. The oil account is now positive at 39,046 million baht due to collected fees from diesel, gasoline, and other fuel users. The fund is currently developing a new energy crisis management plan for 2025-2029, focusing on appropriate support mechanisms during energy price crises and reviewing diesel price subsidy caps.
