Ubon Ratchathani Unrest: Hundreds of Locals Gather to Investigate Election Vote Counting in District 6
On February 10, 2024, residents from Khemarat, Na Tan, and Pho Sai districts gathered in front of the district office, holding vinyl protest signs demanding transparency from the Election Commission. After 24 hours, election results for District 6 had not been publicly displayed. When questioned, officials claimed they were still compiling results, though some ballot papers had already been sent to the provincial Election Commission. Community leader Patchareeporn Thongsut, 50, and representative candidate Kitikorn Cherdchu from the Thai Ruam Phalang Party, demanded transparency. They noted that officials refused to post score boards and instead directed people to check online. The election commission explained that technical issues with their central system prevented immediate result compilation, and they would need to manually collect data before announcing results.
