Department of Fuel Reveals 2026 Petroleum Strategy, Targeting Andaman Exploration
The Department of Petroleum has unveiled its 2026 petroleum strategy, aimed at exploring Andaman Sea resources and attracting major investors. Led by Director Varakorn Prommobol, the strategy focuses on creating energy continuity, optimizing resource utilization, and supporting low-carbon economic development. Key actions include extending production periods for existing exploration blocks in the Gulf of Thailand and opening new exploration rights, with an expected investment of around 2,500 million baht. The department is particularly interested in Andaman Sea exploration blocks, estimating initial exploration investments between 300-1,200 million baht. Additionally, they are developing joint development projects with Malaysia and planning to implement carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies to maximize energy security and economic benefits.
