Pollution Control Department Celebrates: Bangkok Air Quality Improves by 53% Compared to Two Years Ago
On February 5th, Surin Worakitthamrong, Director-General of the Pollution Control Department, revealed air quality measurements showing a positive trend in Bangkok's PM2.5 pollution levels. Comparing the periods from November 1, 2567-January 31, 2568 and November 1, 2568-January 31, 2569, the data shows significant improvements. The 24-hour average standard decreased from 34 to 28 micrograms per cubic meter, with maximum pollution levels dropping from 91.0 to 60.2 micrograms per cubic meter. When including metropolitan areas, the average pollution levels decreased from 36 to 32 micrograms per cubic meter. The improvement is attributed to government efforts, proactive measures against forest fires and pollution, and enhanced communication strategies. Surin emphasized the importance of cooperation between government, private sector, and citizens in reducing air pollution, and encouraged continued efforts to minimize health impacts.
