MEA Opens Electricity Control Center to Support 24-Hour Election Operations
The Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) recognizes the importance of voting rights and aims to build public confidence by officially opening an 'Electricity System Control Operations Center' for the parliamentary and referendum elections. They are mobilizing personnel and modern information technology to monitor electrical system security in Bangkok, Nonthaburi, and Samut Prakan 24 hours a day, to support smooth and efficient elections on Sunday, February 8, 2026.
On February 6, 2026, at 7:30 AM, MEA Governor Dichawat Chan-e chaired the center's opening ceremony at the MEAOC room in the Wattana Vibhas Building, emphasizing that supporting the election is a crucial responsibility that must be carried out quickly and thoughtfully. The center will serve as a central coordination hub, integrating information and collaborating with external agencies to ensure maximum electrical system stability.
MEA Assistant Governor Sombat La-pan revealed proactive preparations, including establishing a special center covering 49 electoral districts and 9,889 polling units across three provinces. They have stationed MEA staff at critical points to respond immediately to any issues and installed additional backup electrical systems at key locations like Bangkok City Hall, Nonthaburi Provincial Hall, and the Election Commission office in Samut Prakan to ensure continuous, transparent, and verifiable election processes.
