Almost in Tears! Woman Cleaning for Chinese New Year Accidentally Throws Away Mother's Hidden Gold Jewelry
As Chinese New Year approaches, many people are cleaning their homes in preparation for the festival. However, one must carefully check for hidden items before discarding anything, as demonstrated by this Chinese woman who accidentally threw away gold jewelry worth hundreds of thousands.
The incident occurred in the Minxing district of Shanghai, where police were notified by a woman named Zhang. While organizing her home, she collected her mother's old clothes and disposed of them in the community trash bin, unaware that her mother had hidden gold jewelry inside, including necklaces, rings, and other valuable items. She only realized the truth when her mother inquired about the discarded clothes.
Since the community trash had already been collected multiple times, police urgently reviewed local CCTV footage and discovered an elderly woman searching through the trash on the day of the incident. Police officer Zhang Zhizhou noted that after Zhang disposed of the clothes, an elderly woman searched through the pile and removed some items, raising suspicions that she might have taken the gold jewelry.
Police divided into two teams: one tracking the elderly woman's movements, and another accompanying Zhang to inquire in buildings where the woman had been seen. With community cooperation, they eventually identified the woman's identity and residence.
The situation resolved peacefully when the elderly woman admitted to collecting the items from the trash, mistakenly believing them to be worthless. Upon learning the gold was worth over 100,000 yuan (approximately 450,000 baht), she was shocked and immediately returned all the jewelry to its rightful owner.
