Demand for Election Commission to Reveal Raw Vote Counts, Expose Central Officials' Ability to Modify System
At 5:00 PM on February 9, 2024, at the iLaw Office, the Constitutional People's Network (ConforAll) and Vote62 election monitoring network, led by Yingchep Ajjaranon from iLaw, held a press conference about the referendum and vote counting process from February 8.
Yingchep reported that the Election Commission has completed 94% of vote counting, with a majority agreeing that Thailand needs a new constitution and must move away from the 2017 constitution. He described this as a significant victory where Thai citizens declared their desire for structural change through their voting.
He emphasized that the support for a new constitution crosses political party lines and represents voters from all regions. While approximately 10 million voters did not support the referendum, Yingchep believes the process demonstrates a commitment to inclusive democratic decision-making.
Chayaphon Donothai highlighted five key election issues, including problems with voter lists, incorrect vote counting, ballot discrepancies, and challenges with election observation.
