Peeraphan Blasts Election Commission for Double Standards, Investigating 2,000 Baht Case While Ignoring 450 Million Baht Cash Withdrawal
On February 6, 2024, Peeraphan Salirattawipark, leader of the United Thai Nation Party and prime ministerial candidate, criticized the Election Commission (EC) for summoning a famous content creator, CK Jeng, over a 2,000 baht alleged vote-buying incident. He questioned the EC's working standards compared to an uninvestigated 450 million baht suspicious cash withdrawal during the election campaign. Peeraphan noted that the Bank of Thailand had previously revealed irregular cash withdrawals from commercial banks totaling 450 million baht, involving 100 and 1,000 baht banknotes. He emphasized that in his 30 years of political experience, such a large cash withdrawal was unprecedented. Peeraphan challenged the EC's selective investigation, suggesting potential dereliction of duty by not examining the 450 million baht case while pursuing a minor 2,000 baht incident. He called for a fair and independent investigation that upholds the integrity of the election process.
