Thai Army Rejects Cambodian PM's Claims, Asserts Defense of Sovereignty
BANGKOK — The Royal Thai Army has rejected Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet's remarks, denying accusations of territorial occupation and insisting its actions are in line with international law. Army spokesman Maj. Gen. Winthai Suvaree responded to Hun Manet's Reuters interview, stating that the disputed area is recognized as Thai territory and that the military's actions are defensive in nature. The army maintains it has adhered to the ceasefire agreement signed on 27 December 2025, with container and barbed wire installations serving as temporary security measures to reduce confrontation risks. Winthai emphasized that Thailand remains open to bilateral mechanisms for resolving border disputes, contingent on de-escalation of military tensions and clearance of landmines, while prioritizing national sovereignty and public safety.
