Nan Province: 69 Ballots Torn Incorrectly, Election Officials Immediately Replace Staff
On February 8th, 2024, the Nan Province Public Relations reported an incident at Voting Unit 3 in Chai Sathan Subdistrict, Mueang Nan District. Election staff mistakenly tore 69 parliamentary election ballots along the 'fold line' instead of the prescribed 'perforated line'. Pradarn Phromphao, the Nan Province Election Director, immediately ordered the replacement of election staff to prevent further mistakes and initiated an investigation. Regarding whether the 69 incorrectly torn ballots would trigger a new election, Pradarn stated that the central Election Commission would make the final determination. An additional incident was reported in Ban Na Phan, Sathan Subdistrict, Pua District, where an 86-year-old voter tore a ballot after marking it incorrectly and requested a new ballot. Election officials have examined the situation and will proceed according to election laws. The voting unit has a total of 579 registered voters.
