Bangkok Transport Office Opens Investment Consultation for BTS Silom Line Extension
The Bangkok Transport Office (BTS) is conducting investment consultations for the BTS Silom Line extension project, section 3 between Bang Wa and Taling Chan. Director Sitthiporn Somkidsarn revealed that feasibility studies were completed in 2016, covering economic, engineering, and environmental aspects. The project requires significant investment, prompting considerations for public-private partnership (PPP) with three proposed models: 1) PPP Net Cost where government handles infrastructure and private sector manages operations, 2) PPP Gross Cost where government owns revenue and pays private sector based on service quality, and 3) Modified Gross Cost where private sector manages systems and receives compensation. The 7.5-kilometer extension will include 6 elevated stations: Bang Waek, Bang Chueak Nang, Bang Phrom, Intrawat, Borommaratchachonnani, and Taling Chan. The project is expected to generate daily passenger traffic of 73,000 in its first year, with planned construction between 2029-2034 and service commencement in 2034.
