WHO Announces Award for 'Dr. Worawit', Umphang Hospital Director, Honoring Humanitarian Healthcare Equality Model
The World Health Organization (WHO) has internationally recognized and will award the United Arab Emirates Health Foundation Prize for 2024 to Dr. Worawit Tantiwatthanasap, Director of Umphang Hospital in Tak Province. He is being honored as an exemplary figure who has dedicated himself to developing public health services in remote areas and creating healthcare access equality for vulnerable border populations. Dr. Pongsathorn Pockpermdee, Director-General of the Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine, revealed that the selection committee unanimously nominated Dr. Worawit for his significant contributions to global health systems. The award highlights Dr. Worawit's achievements in three key areas: protecting health rights, providing borderless healthcare services, and implementing sustainable management innovations. The official award ceremony will take place during the 79th World Health Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland in May, where Dr. Worawit will receive a certificate, an award plaque, and a $40,000 prize.
