Sontinya Challenges Election Commission, Opposes Vote Recount in Chonburi District 1

On February 12, 2026, Sontinya Sawadee, a political activist, submitted a letter to the Election Commission (EC) opposing vote recounts in Chonburi District 1 and nationwide. He argued that according to election laws, vote recounts are only valid under three specific conditions: 1) voters must be from the district, 2) candidates must be from the district, and 3) political parties must have nominees in that district. Sontinya urged the EC to follow legal principles and not fear potential protests, emphasizing that he supports the EC if they act constitutionally. He warned that widespread recounts could cost 8.7 billion baht and create national instability, and challenged protesters to clearly state their objectives while maintaining legal procedures.
