The issue originated when a Facebook user, Thuntee RB Sukchotrat, shared a post questioning whether the QR codes on ballots could be used to verify vote counting errors. The Election Commission (ECT) responded that the barcode is a security system to identify ballot batches and maintain control, not to track individual votes. However, further investigation revealed that the barcode on pink party-list ballots matches the ballot stub, potentially allowing identification of a voter's choice, which could be a violation of election secrecy laws.
