Election Commission Director Reports Two Notable Figures for False Facebook Posts
On February 11, 2024, at Hang Chat Police Station in Lampang, Thongneth Dujai, the Lampang Election Commission Director, accompanied by legal staff, met with police to file a complaint against two individuals: Sirotm Klampaiboon, a prominent academic, and Thipa Paveenasathian, a Lampang parliamentary candidate from the People's Party, for posting false information damaging their reputation.
Thongneth stated the complaint covers two main issues of factual distortion: allegations of 'election fraud' and 'being close to influential local figures'. Thipa had posted claims that the Lampang Election Commission rigged the election by not posting certain election documents, which Sirotm further spread on social media.
Thongneth firmly denied these claims as completely false, asserting they created hatred and damaged the reputation of himself and the Election Commission. He emphasized that such actions of spreading false information through computer systems significantly harm public understanding and the Election Commission's reputation.
The Hang Chat police station received the complaint and will collect evidence to summon the accused for legal proceedings.
