Hidden Underground for Thousands of Years: First 'Bronze Drum' Discovered in Phetchaburi
Archaeologists have discovered two ancient bronze drums in a field in Don Plub Village, Samop Lue Subdistrict, Ban Lat District, Phetchaburi Province. The archaeological team from the Office of Archaeology in Ratchaburi, led by Nipa Sangkanakin, collaborated with Phetchaburi Rajabhat University researchers to carefully excavate the site.
Preliminary investigations reveal two bronze drums with distinct patterns: one relatively intact with minimal decoration, and another more fragmented with more complex designs. Alongside the drums, archaeologists also found Dvaravati-era earrings and an ancient brick mound, suggesting a significant pre-historical settlement in the area.
The discovery is considered extremely important, marking the first bronze drum find in Phetchaburi Province and providing evidence of complex cultural practices during the pre-historical period. Further excavations are planned to uncover more details about the site and its historical significance.
