Ministry Prepares to Ratify UNESCO Convention to Elevate Thai Higher Education Standards
On February 5th, Professor Dr. Supachai Patumnakulwill, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESRI), revealed that the ministry has appointed a committee to prepare Thailand's ratification of two key UNESCO conventions on higher education recognition. These conventions are critical mechanisms to elevate the quality and credibility of Thailand's higher education system internationally. The ratification will help create a qualification recognition system linked to international standards, promote educational and professional labor mobility, and increase confidence in Thai higher education globally. The process will enable Thai university qualifications to be recognized regionally and internationally, making it easier for Thai students to transfer credits or study abroad, while also attracting more international students to study in Thailand. This aligns with the country's strategy to drive Soft Power and become a Regional Education Hub. The committee will analyze the country's readiness and develop mechanisms such as improving quality assurance systems, establishing a National Information Centre for qualification recognition, and creating understanding among relevant stakeholders.
