Rawit Monitors Pheu Thai Party List Candidates, Promotes ODOS Scholarship to Expand Educational Opportunities for Thai Children
On January 31st, Rawit Sorsong, a Pheu Thai party list MP candidate, posted on Facebook about the "ODOS Scholarship" as an equal opportunity for all Thai children's futures. He emphasized that educational and opportunity inequalities remain a persistent problem.
Many young students dream of studying abroad, becoming language experts, and becoming leaders, but barriers of "expenses" and "information access" prevent these dreams from being realized. Especially in provincial areas, many students are "talented" but "lack opportunities" - a painful truth.
A special report from the Education Equity Fund (2025) reveals stark educational disparities: children from the poorest families have only a 13% chance of entering higher education, compared to 78% for children from the wealthiest families - a critical issue that needs urgent addressing.
Additionally, data from the National Economic and Social Development Council shows that entry-level salaries for new Thai graduates are around 15,000-20,000 baht, while those with international skills or overseas degrees can earn significantly more, potentially 100,000-200,000 baht in multinational companies. Therefore, lacking educational opportunities means losing life and income opportunities.
Rawit proposed the "One District One Scholarship" (ODOS) policy, highlighting that in previous Pheu Thai governments, over 3,000 students were sent to top global universities. The current proposal aims to:
1. Distribute opportunities equally: Offering one scholarship per district transparently, regardless of background
2. Provide comprehensive skill programs: Enhancing language, technology, and leadership skills
3. Connect with private sectors: Matching study fields with provincial needs
"Education is the most valuable investment," Rawit stated. "Sending one person to explore the world creates a powerful change agent for family, community, and nation."
