Water Reserves in Good Condition: Royal Irrigation Department Prepares Drought Measures for 2025/26
The Royal Irrigation Department's Smart Water Operations Center (SWOC) reported on February 11, 2026, that large and medium-sized reservoirs nationwide have a total water volume of 60,624 million cubic meters (79% of total reservoir capacity). The four main Chao Phraya River basin dams - Bhumibol, Sirikit, Kwai Noi Bamrung Dan, and Pa Sak Cholasit - have a combined water volume of over 20,497 million cubic meters (82% of their total capacity). Water quality in the four main rivers - Chao Phraya, Bang Pakong, Tha Chin, and Mae Klong - remains within standard levels, and overall water management is proceeding according to plan. The department is strictly following 8 drought response measures approved by the National Water Resources Committee, covering water management planning, risk prediction, water allocation, efficiency improvements, water quality monitoring, community strengthening, and continuous public communication. Additionally, they are continuously removing water weeds and water hyacinths from canals and water sources to improve water distribution efficiency throughout the dry season.
