DITP Highlights Pet Product Market in Austria amid 'Fur Babies' Trend

The Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) reported that Austrians treat pets like children, spending extensively on food, clothing, and healthcare. The department's commercial attaché in Vienna highlighted the 'Fur Babies' trend, where millennials treat pets as family members, driving rapid growth in the pet industry. Austrians currently have approximately 2 million cats, 800,000 dogs, and 750,000 other pets, with over 40% of households owning at least one pet. The pet food market is projected to reach over 631 million euros by 2028, with a 3.4% annual growth rate. Currently, Germany is the primary pet food import source, with leading brands including Mars Petcare, Nestlé Purina, and local brands like Austria Pet Food GmbH.
