Social Security Secretary Orders Budget Review, Demands 10% Administrative Budget Benefit Insured Persons
On February 2, 2026, Ms. Kanchana Poolkaew, Secretary-General of the Social Security Office (SSO), revealed that following observations and recommendations from insured persons and political parties, the Social Security Office will improve its budget management. By law, the office can use 10% of annual contribution collections for administrative purposes, since the Social Security Fund does not receive government budget. Currently, they use approximately 2-3% or around 5,000 million baht. Although the budget use is legally compliant, the SSO is ready to improve based on recommendations to build confidence that expenditures will be efficient, transparent, and truly beneficial to insured persons. Ms. Kanchana has instructed deputy secretaries to seriously review the annual budget approach, ensuring not just regulatory compliance but also the ability to explain the direct and indirect benefits to society.
