National Police Chief Orders Monitoring of High-Risk Groups, Prepares Crowd Control Measures
At the National Police Office Operations Center on February 10, 2024, Police General Samran Nuanma, Deputy Police Chief, chaired a meeting tracking election situation stability. Currently, 17 election districts across 15 provinces have reported issues including ballot counting discrepancies, observer blockades, and transparency concerns.
Police General Samran outlined three key operational directives:
1. Intelligence: Closely monitor group reactions, potential mass mobilization, and track online misinformation. Coordinate with provincial peace officers to update risk group watchlists.
2. Election Commission Coordination: Assist with complaint investigations, protect witnesses, and strictly guard election ballot storage locations.
3. Crowd Control Preparation: Ensure riot control units are fully equipped, positioned strategically, and ready to quickly respond to potential incidents.
The police leadership emphasized continuous situation assessment to ensure appropriate and legally compliant actions.
