Private Sector Committee Warns of Thailand's Lowest Corruption Perception Index in 14 Years
The Joint Private Sector Committee (JPSC) and its network are deeply concerned about Thailand's Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) for 2025, which scored 33/100 and ranked 116th globally - the lowest in 14 years and below the global average of 42 points. This significant decline reflects a worrying deterioration in transparency. The trend will directly impact foreign investor confidence, competitive rankings, and Thailand's long-term goal of OECD membership, which prioritizes good governance and transparency. The score's decline, particularly in business and investor perspectives, reveals critical challenges in competitive systems, business transparency, and judicial processes that require urgent addressing. The group emphasizes that even as a caretaker government, authorities must implement international anti-corruption standards, enhance judicial independence, reduce inappropriate policy influences, and promote public participation and whistleblower protection. They recommend improving inter-agency data sharing and creating a comprehensive Data Bureau involving key government agencies like the Bank of Thailand, Securities and Exchange Commission, and various anti-corruption bodies.
