Mab Yang Wittayakom School Director Explains Rationale Behind Grade Repetition System
Mab Yang Wittayakom School Director Veera Kongkrajang explained the two key concepts behind implementing a grade repetition system. The first concept aims to create fairness for students who are truly committed to learning, recognizing that students have different levels of motivation and life goals. The school wants to ensure that students understand the importance of academic effort and performance.
In the second concept, the director highlighted the fundamental educational issue where some students in middle school cannot even read properly. He believes that if such problems are not addressed, educational objectives cannot be achieved. The school's environment allows for this system, especially since they receive many student applications and want to be serious about academic standards.
The system has already been implemented for first-year middle school students, with the first evaluation coming at the end of March. If a student meets repeat grade criteria, the school will call a parent meeting and provide a one-year period for behavior and academic improvement. Parents have largely been supportive, understanding that no parent wants their child to graduate without proper knowledge.
