Praise for 10-Year-Old Chinese Girl Who Bought Gold with Red Envelope Money for 3 Years, Fearing Parents Would Spend It
A 10-year-old girl from Hebei province in northern China has gone viral online after using Chinese New Year red envelope money to buy and accumulate gold for three consecutive years. Her simple reason was fear that her parents might spend the money before gold prices skyrocketed, leading internet users to praise her as an 'investment genius'. According to reports, she began buying gold in 2023 using red envelope money traditionally given to children during Chinese New Year to wish them good luck and health. Her mother explained that her daughter chose to buy gold because she believed it preserved value better than cash and was concerned her parents might inadvertently spend the money. Each year, the girl receives around 4,000 yuan (approximately 18,000 baht) in red envelope money. When she first started buying gold, the price was around 460 yuan per gram. By February 2026, the price had risen to 1,100 yuan (about 5,000 baht) per gram - a significant increase. Her mother admitted that her daughter's investment skills are better than her own and secretly regrets not following her daughter's gold-buying strategy earlier.
