DDPM Warns 60 Provinces, Including Bangkok, Prepare for Summer Storms
On February 21, Theeraphad Katchamat, Director-General of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), announced that the Central Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Operations Center (CDPOC) has been monitoring weather conditions and risk factors. The Meteorological Department issued a warning about summer storms in upper Thailand (affecting February 23-25), indicating that high-pressure systems from China are moving into the Northeast and South China Sea.
This will create southerly and southeast winds covering the Northeast, Central, Eastern regions, and the Gulf of Thailand. With upper Thailand experiencing extremely hot temperatures, the North, Northeast, Central regions, Bangkok, and surrounding areas will experience summer storms in some areas. These storms may include thunderstorms, strong winds, hail, heavy rain in some areas, and potential lightning.
The DDPM has coordinated with 60 provinces in the North, Northeast, Central regions, and Bangkok, including local disaster prevention centers, to prepare and monitor the situation. They advise citizens to closely follow weather forecasts, take warnings seriously, secure their homes and structures, avoid open areas and unstable structures, and be cautious of potential hazards.
Citizens can receive alerts through the 'THAI DISASTER ALERT' app, contact the 1784 disaster helpline, or use the Line ID @1784DDPM for assistance.
