Editorial - After February 8th
The parliamentary election and constitutional referendum took place on February 8th, 2026. The Election Commission will now receive vote tallies from 400 provincial districts and examine complaints to verify the election's fairness and integrity. Initial election results indicate clear frontrunners, with political parties and citizens already identifying potential winners on the evening of the election. Political negotiations and government formation discussions began immediately after polls closed, following traditional practices of allowing the top-scoring party to assemble a majority coalition. Several parties have pre-established conditions about potential government partnerships, which may create challenges. The election results will also test the accuracy of previous polling surveys and demonstrate the viability of smaller political parties among the 57 participating parties.
