NSTDA Joins Forces with Silk Department and BAAC to Boost Thai Textile Industry with Innovation
The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation's National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) has signed a collaboration agreement with the Silk Department and BAAC to promote science, technology, and innovation in textile development. The partnership aims to enhance production efficiency and silk standards throughout the supply chain, create added value, and expand market opportunities to sustainably improve community income.
Saranyu Poolarp, Director-General of the Silk Department, highlighted this collaboration as a critical step integrating the strengths of three organizations. The initiative focuses on preserving cultural heritage while raising farmers' incomes through research and development, including developing climate-resistant mulberry and silk varieties, researching special silk properties for future industries, and creating value from waste materials.
The collaboration seeks to transform Thai silk farmers from raw material producers to innovative entrepreneurs capable of competing on the global stage, with each organization playing a specific role: the Silk Department identifying targets, NSTDA providing technology and innovation, and BAAC offering financial support and commercial opportunities.
