ABB Leads Ethernet-APL Technology, Elevating Factories to Full Digital Era

ABB is advancing its industrial measurement portfolio in Thailand by introducing Ethernet-APL technology to elevate factory data communication to a full digital era. Suman Pakschar, Thailand Country Manager for Measurement & Analytics at ABB, a global leader in electrical power and automation technologies, announced the launch of ProcessMaster, a new electromagnetic flow measurement device supporting Ethernet-APL (Advanced Physical Layer) specifically for the Thai market, reflecting the company's commitment to supporting the digital transformation of Thailand's industrial sector. The technology emerged from collaboration between 12 leading global automation suppliers and 4 international standards organizations, making Ethernet implementation in industrial environments both feasible and safe. Although Ethernet has been a standard communication technology in industrial worlds, it has been limited in large-scale production industries due to safety concerns, costs, and wiring distance restrictions. Implementing Ethernet-APL in field devices represents a significant step forward for chemical, petrochemical, oil and gas, energy, and water system industries, enabling high-speed data transmission to control systems, supporting real-time decision-making, and enhancing overall factory operational efficiency.
