Department of Business Development Boosts Online Sellers, Generates Over 2.3 Billion Baht in Revenue
Poonpong Naiyanapakorn, Director-General of the Department of Business Development, revealed that the department is prioritizing the enhancement of Thai SME entrepreneurs to compete in the digital economy. They are focusing on using online platforms as tools to generate income, expand markets, and reach consumers across the country.
The department has implemented proactive policies to support Thai entrepreneurs through various projects like Online Marketing Genius (OMG), Digital Village, Smart Local, MOC Biz Club, and The Influencer Journey (TIJ). These initiatives help Thai agricultural product groups and modern retail stores effectively sell products on platforms like Shopee and TikTok Shop.
Performance results show that entrepreneurs supported by the department generated sales of over 2,384 million baht across two popular platforms. On Shopee, 1,209 sellers achieved 1,061.2 million baht in sales, a 425.59% increase from 2024. On TikTok Shop, 454 sellers generated 1,322.8 million baht, a 314.68% increase.
The data also reflects clear online market trends. On Shopee, consumer goods (FMCG) led with 44.56% of sales, followed by fashion at 27.14%, lifestyle products at 26.56%, and electronics at 1.31%. TikTok Shop showed similar patterns, with consumer goods at 66.67%, lifestyle products at 20.37%, fashion at 9.88%, and electronics at 3.09%.
Poonpong stated that the department will continue to support Thai SMEs in using Shopee, TikTok, and other digital platforms to expand markets, create business opportunities, and drive Thailand's economic growth in the digital era.
