Fireworks Factory Explosion in Suphan Buri: One Dead, Factory License Just Expired
On January 30th, Police Major Sukon Songskul from Don Chedi Police Station was notified of a fireworks factory explosion in Moo 6, Rai Rot Subdistrict, Don Chedi District, Suphan Buri Province. Multiple emergency response teams, including firefighters, rescue workers, and explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) units, were dispatched to the scene. Initial investigations revealed one fatality - Sanae, 58, a factory worker. Three other workers were hospitalized with severe injuries: Chaiya Kaewboondi (38) with head wounds, Wirote Plerdplern (58) with neck injuries, and Amnart Phophan (49) with head wounds. Five dogs were also killed in the explosion. At 9:00 AM, Suphan Buri Governor Nattapong Sanguankit and local police commanders visited the site. The single-story factory was completely destroyed, with two neighboring buildings also damaged. Investigators discovered that the factory's fireworks production license (No. 1/2568) had expired on January 26th and was in the process of renewal. The factory owner, who was not present during the incident, claimed to have been in the business for over 30 years. He suggested the explosion might have occurred while a worker was mixing gunpowder for fireworks production - possibly dropping or mishandling the mixing container. The governor confirmed one worker fatality and noted the factory was in the middle of renewing its license. Preliminary investigations suggest the explosion was likely caused by a worker's error while preparing fireworks materials, though a full investigation is still pending.
