Bank of Thailand Proposes New Guidelines for Cash Transactions and Identity Verification
The Bank of Thailand (BOT) is inviting comments and suggestions on two draft regulations with three key objectives: 1) To establish comprehensive customer verification processes for financial institutions, covering customer identification, transaction monitoring, and risk assessment, especially for cash-related transactions. 2) To prevent financial institutions from being used as channels for financial crimes, enhancing public confidence in the financial system. 3) To protect citizens from becoming victims of financial crimes, with a commitment to supporting legitimate customers who may be affected. The public feedback period is set from February 10-24, 2024, with detailed guidelines focusing on governance, customer due diligence, transaction monitoring, and customer protection mechanisms.
