Wildfire Continues to Rage in Phetchabun for 48 Hours
A forest fire in Phetchabun province has been burning continuously since February 18, 2026, with officials struggling to control the blaze. The fire originated in a mountainous area between Muang Phetchabun and Khao Kho districts, spreading towards residential zones and forcing local authorities to create firebreaks to protect communities. District chief Somphong Thongnunui deployed volunteer defense corps and village leaders to combat the fire, using blowers and locally available equipment to prevent the flames from reaching populated areas. Challenging terrain, strong winds, and insufficient firefighting resources have complicated containment efforts. Additional forest fires have been reported in other parts of Phetchabun province, including Nam Nao National Park and nearby forest areas, with authorities continuing to monitor and attempt to control the blazes.
