NBTC Kicks Off Underground Communication Cable Project in Yaowarat Ahead of Chinese New Year
The NBTC Office is collaborating with the Metropolitan Electricity Authority, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, Provincial Electricity Authority, and telecommunication license holders to move communication cables underground in the Yaowarat area. On February 10, 2026, Suttisak Tantayothin, Deputy Secretary-General of NBTC for Telecommunications, stated that today marks the first day of joint communication cable dismantling in the Yaowarat area (Charoen Krung Road - Chakkraphet Road - Mahachai Road), following the underground cable plan for 2025-2026, which covers nationwide areas. The project begins from Yaowarat Soi 3 to Thongsawat Road intersection (on both road sides), covering 0.32 kilometers, and is progressing faster than scheduled. The route is expected to be completed by mid-February to welcome the upcoming Chinese New Year, with the entire Yaowarat area project anticipated to finish by 2026. The NBTC Office supports the underground cable initiative as part of Bangkok's plan to organize communication infrastructure in main and secondary roads, focusing on areas with dense cable networks, tourist sites, and historical locations.
