Residents Panic as Tower Crane Collapses, Loud Crash Catches Everyone by Surprise
Residents were shocked as a tower crane collapsed with a thunderous noise, an incident no one expected. At 10:27 AM on February 7, 2026, Police Lieutenant Pairoj Manee-chan from Lumphini Police Station was notified of a crane collapse injuring workers at a construction site near a mall in Asoke, Sukhumvit Soi 21, North Klongtan, Watthana District, Bangkok. The Po Tek Tung Foundation accompanied officers to the scene.
At the site, a 5-story religious building and parking facility was under construction. The crane's arm broke and fell onto Myanmar workers below, injuring two people. A female worker, Ms. Khin Nu Wai, 40, was injured in her left leg and sent to Vimut-Theptarin Hospital. An unidentified 50-year-old male worker suffered serious head and facial injuries and lost consciousness. Chulalongkorn emergency rescue staff performed CPR and revived him, then transported him to Police Hospital.
Ms. B (pseudonym), a nearby resident, reported hearing a loud crash like collapsing construction materials, which also damaged her shop's signage. She expressed ongoing concerns about construction vibrations and previous crane collapse incidents.
Lieutenant Pairoj confirmed the injured were hospitalized and not fatally wounded. Construction has been temporarily halted pending investigation, with the area restricted to outside access.
