Thailand to Reduce Visa-Free Stay to 30 Days Due to Security Issues
BANGKOK — The Thai government is considering reducing its 60-day visa-free entry scheme to 30 days, driven by concerns over national security and illegal activities. Deputy government spokeswoman Airin Phanthurat announced on 10 February 2026 that the Cabinet has reviewed a Foreign Affairs Ministry report on the current visa measures. The current policy, implemented on 15 July 2024, allows visitors from 93 countries to stay up to 60 days, but officials have discovered instances of foreigners misusing the privilege by working illegally or using Thailand as a transit point for criminal activities. The prime minister has established a new Visa Policy Committee to review and potentially revise the current measures. Tourism officials believe the reduction to 30 days will not significantly impact tourism, as most visitors typically stay around 21 days, and those requiring longer stays can apply for extensions.
