Chris Paul Announces Retirement from Professional Basketball at 40 After Contract Termination
NBA legend Chris Paul has officially retired at age 40 after recently being released by the Toronto Raptors. Paul was traded to the Raptors on February 5th in a three-team exchange involving Brooklyn Nets, but the Raptors chose not to use him and terminated his contract on February 13th. Hours after his contract termination, Paul shared on Instagram, 'Although my NBA career is ending, this sport will be in my DNA forever. I've been in the NBA for more than half my life, and it still feels crazy to say it out loud.' Paul is regarded as one of the best point guards of all time, having played 21 NBA seasons, been selected to 12 All-Star teams, and been part of the US Olympic gold medal teams in 2008 and 2012. Despite never winning an NBA championship, he ranks second in all-time statistics for assists (12,552) and steals (2,728).
