People's Party Candidate Storms Election Commission in Phichit, Demands Vote Recount after Discovering Nearly 30,000 Suspicious Votes
On February 9th at the Phichit Election Commission office, Kairinthorn Thungtong, a parliamentary candidate for Phichit District 1 from the People's Party, arrived with over 10 supporters to submit a letter to director Amorn Ratchtangkul. The candidate requested a vote verification due to votes exceeding voter turnout by almost 30,000. While 100,830 people voted, the total vote count was 130,175, showing an excess of 29,345 votes. Kairinthorn noted suspicious circumstances during vote counting, including election officials preventing observers from photographing or recording vote tallies. The Bhumjaithai Party candidate won with 53,148 votes compared to Kairinthorn's 23,172. Election Commission director Amorn acknowledged a reporting error involving vote count numbers from multiple districts being incorrectly consolidated, and promised to forward the complaint to the central Election Commission for review.
