Commerce Department Teams Up with Markets to Offer Chinese New Year Discounts Up to 50%
The Department of Internal Trade has partnered with Thai market associations and nationwide retail outlets to organize the 'Commerce Brings Happiness Chinese New Year 2026' event, offering Chinese New Year festival products at discounted prices up to 50% to reduce living expenses and encourage consumer spending.
On February 13, 2026, Chantaphat Panjamannon, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Internal Trade, revealed that Director-General Witthayakorn Maneenet assigned him to launch the activity at Duang Kaew Plaza in Nonthaburi province.
The department has coordinated with market managers, Thai market associations, and agricultural wholesale market trade associations to provide affordable festival products. Special pricing includes cooked chicken at 133 baht per kilogram, small worship sets priced under 99 baht, and various traditional Chinese worship sets.
The event involves 20 markets across 5 provinces, including markets in Bangkok and other provinces, with major supermarket chains and convenience stores like Makro, Lotus, Big C, Tops, 7-Eleven, and others participating by offering discounts on worship sets, festive snacks, lucky fruits, and essential consumer goods.
The department has closely managed consumer goods, ensuring sufficient stock and fair pricing, and warned businesses to clearly display prices or face fines up to 10,000 baht and potential legal consequences for price gouging.
