Hong Kong Man Shocked as Mother Secretly Sells 15 Years of Gold Savings to Buy Apartment for Younger Brother
A Hong Kong man was almost in shock after discovering that his gold, which he had been saving for 15 years, was completely sold by his mother to buy an apartment for his younger brother before his wedding. The man explained that he had been buying gold every month since graduating, intending to use it as a down payment for a future home. When he opened his safe to sell some gold, he found it completely empty. The gold was worth approximately 3.5 million Hong Kong dollars, or about 27 million baht.
His mother, who knew the safe's code as she often helped him buy gold, admitted to selling all the gold to help his younger brother buy an apartment. She reasoned that the older son could start saving again, but the younger brother couldn't get married without a stable home. She promised the younger son would repay the money gradually.
The situation escalated when the father reportedly threatened the man with a knife and told him to leave home. The man moved to a hotel and sent a WhatsApp message demanding his brother return all the money within 3 days, threatening to file a police report and make the issue public.
The younger brother tried to negotiate, offering to return one-third of the gold's value within a week, but the older brother refused. Ultimately, he decided not to press charges, worried about legal consequences for his parents. He gave about one-third of the gold's value as a wedding gift to his brother, sending a final message: "As an older brother, I've done my best. Let our sibling relationship end here."
The younger brother promised to return the remaining money by the end of February, while the older brother stated he would move out and definitely not attend his brother's wedding.
