Thai Cement Association Promotes Co-processing to Manage Waste and Reduce Carbon
The Thai Cement Association (TCMA) is emphasizing the cement industry's role as a key national mechanism for systematic waste management and greenhouse gas reduction. Through the Co-processing in Cement Kilns process, under the concept 'Turning Waste into Purpose for Net Zero 2050', TCMA reflects collaboration among cement producers, government policy support, and local area development via the Saraburi Sandbox. Naphadol Romyaroop, Vice President of TCMA, revealed that the association participated in the Asia Environmental and Waste Management Expo to communicate the cement industry's structural role in linking waste management, greenhouse gas reduction, and enhancing national competitiveness. TCMA's operations align with the Thailand Net Zero Cement and Concrete Roadmap 2050, consistent with the Global Cement and Concrete Association's direction. The cement kilns, which can reach temperatures of 1,450 degrees Celsius, have the potential to completely destroy waste without residue, supporting waste management from industrial, community, and agricultural sectors. The key mechanism TCMA is pushing is Co-processing in Cement Kilns, which involves using waste as energy and alternative raw materials in cement production. This approach promotes circular economy, reduces fossil fuel usage, and helps decrease carbon dioxide and methane emissions.
