Social Media Pressure Leads Universal Studios to Approve Minions Song for Olympic Figure Skater
Universal Studios, a prominent entertainment company, has now allowed Thomas Laurence Guarino, a Spanish national figure skater, to use the famous song from the 'Minions' movie for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina. Previously, the copyright owners had not permitted Guarino to use the 'Papaya' song, which features Minions character voices, even though he had been using it throughout the season. The request through the ClicknClear system, which is the copyright intermediary for the International Figure Skating Federation, was initially denied for the Winter Olympics. However, after Guarino posted about his disappointment, it became a social media issue, with fans demanding that Universal make a special exception.
