12-Year-Old Grieving as Compensation Money from Mother's Fatal Train Crane Accident Goes to Grandfather's Account
A 12-year-old boy is sad that the 1.7 million baht compensation for his mother, who was killed when a crane collapsed on a train in Korat, was deposited into his grandfather's account. On February 4th, 2024, Special Express Train 21 was crushed by a fallen construction crane between Nong Nam Khun and Sikhio stations in Nakhon Ratchasima, killing 30 passengers and injuring many more. One of the victims was Suphinna "Pin" Satbutr, 28, from Buriram province, who left behind her 12-year-old son Nong Gorn. The boy has been raised by his grandfather since childhood. Although the family expected to receive compensation, the entire 1.7 million baht initially went to the mother's father's account, with only 200,000 baht eventually transferred back. The family continues to care for Nong Gorn, who is grieving the loss of his mother.
