Commerce Ministry Shocked: 38 Gold Shop Scales Found with Inaccurate Weights, Immediately Banned
Yanee Srimunee, Deputy Director of the Department of Internal Trade, revealed that on February 13th, they inspected trade fairness during the Chinese New Year at the Leng Bui Eiah community in Bangkok's Samphanthawong District. The inspection focused on ensuring clear price displays and verifying the accuracy of gold shop scales. The department checked 1,231 businesses and 1,403 digital scales nationwide between January 30 and February 12. While most scales (1,365) were correct, 38 scales were found to have weight discrepancies exceeding legal limits in provinces including Ang Thong, Saraburi, Udon Thani, Buriram, and Trang. Businesses face strict penalties for non-compliance: up to 10,000 baht for not displaying prices, up to 7 years imprisonment or 140,000 baht for price gouging, and up to 7 years or 280,000 baht for using inaccurate scales. Consumers can report violations by calling the department's hotline at 1569.
