Village Residents Boycott Election Over Decade-Long Electricity Installation Delay
On February 9th, 2569, a report from Ban Mong Khun Huay Tak in Tak Province revealed that community leaders and all villagers boycotted the election on Sunday, February 8th, with not a single resident casting a vote. Prior to this, community leaders had been requesting electricity installation for over 10 years, with previous explanations from electricity authorities, local government, and administrative officials failing to satisfy villagers. As a result, 1,140 eligible voters collectively refused to participate in the election. Throughout the day, district administrative officials attempted to discuss the matter with community leaders, but without success. Some relatives of villagers acknowledged that electrical infrastructure issues were complicated due to forest area restrictions, but many residents wanted to exercise their democratic right to vote yet were afraid of defying the village leadership's collective decision.
