Rom Proposes War Room to Seize Scammers' Assets, Challenges Political Parties on Tackling Gray Money
At the Thai-Japanese Sports Center on February 6th, Rangsiman Rom, a party-list MP candidate for the People's Party, delivered a passionate speech about the scammer crisis. He highlighted that scams have caused over 100 billion baht in damages, reduced Chinese tourism by at least 35%, and led many victims to end their lives. Rom emphasized that traditional government methods are no longer effective in addressing this issue.
He revealed that over 1 million cases have been reported in the past 2-3 years, questioning how many victims have actually recovered their money. Rom proposed establishing a comprehensive 'War Room' with multiple agencies to create a Data Bureau that will not only arrest criminals but also disrupt their financial networks.
Rom's strategy focuses on asset seizure, arguing that removing financial incentives is the most effective way to discourage scamming. He challenged existing political parties, suggesting that their current approaches are inadequate and calling for a more aggressive, systematic approach to dismantling scam operations.
