Payap – Phetrwat Escapes Jail, Criminal Court Grants 300,000 Baht Bail in Terrorism Case

On February 9, 2024, at the Criminal Court on Ratchadaphisek Road, the court heard the case against Phetrwat Wattanapongsirikul, a former listed MP from the Phua Chart Party, and Payap Punkate, a former PDRC leader and former listed MP from Pheu Thai Party. They were charged with multiple offenses including defamation, insulting the monarchy, and terrorism-related activities. The Criminal Court sentenced both defendants to 5 years in prison without suspension under Criminal Code Article 135/2 and Article 86, and acquitted them of the royal defamation charge. Subsequently, the court granted temporary release during appeal with a 300,000 baht bail and travel restrictions.
