Natthaphong Warns of Election Data Breach, Calls for New Election
BANGKOK — On 15 February 2026, Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut, leader of Thailand's People's Party, raised serious concerns about potential voter data leaks in the recent election. A white-hat hacker discovered system vulnerabilities in a government agency on 14 February, which Natthaphong claimed could compromise voter privacy. He argued that ballot barcodes and photographed ballots could potentially be used to trace individual voting choices, challenging the Election Commission's claims of a secret voting process. Natthaphong highlighted that images of ballot papers with visible barcodes had circulated online, and the complex election process involving multiple parties increased the risk of data exposure. He filed complaints with the ombudsman and criminal charges, urging the Election Commission to acknowledge the error and take immediate corrective action. The People's Party leader emphasized that even a single case of traceable voting could undermine the integrity of the entire election process.
