Supphanat Exposes Social Security Office's Potential Luxury Hotel Investment Scandal
On February 6, 2024, Supphanat Minchainan, a Bangkok MP candidate from the People's Party, revealed another investment plan by the Social Security Office. He exposed that beyond the SKYY9 building, the office planned to purchase the Swissotel Bangkok Ratchadaphisek hotel for around 6,000 million baht, despite its actual value being only around 4,000 million baht at the time.
The fund managers evaluated the hotel and office building's price in 2022 during the COVID period at 6,000 million baht. However, in 2025, AWC company purchased the hotel and office for just 4,415 million baht. Comparing the purchase price and retrospective evaluation, the actual value was likely only 4,000 million baht.
Thankfully for the 24 million insured individuals, the Social Security Office did not complete the purchase, which would have resulted in a 2,000 million baht loss, similar to the SKYY9 building incident.
Supphanat questions why the office consistently attempts to purchase properties at prices higher than their actual value, urging authorities like the Anti-Corruption Commission, SEC, and Labor Minister to investigate the matter.
