Department of Special Investigation Enhances Self-Reliance and National Defense Capabilities

The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) is advancing its self-reliance capabilities and sustainably driving the national defense industry. The Defense Technology Institute (DTI), operating under the Ministry of Defense's defense technology legislation, collaborated with the private sector to establish the Weapons Manufacturing Industry Company (WMI) to produce and sell small arms and handguns. The event involved testing 36 sets of 9mm MI-9 SMG handguns with sound suppressor equipment at the Central Police Tactical Training Center in Nakhon Ratchasima province. A key innovation was the 'Shuriken 9' sound suppressor, which can reduce firearm noise by approximately 15% without compromising hearing safety. The MI-9 SMG features a direct blowback operation system, two stock options (LE and PDW), and is compact and lightweight. It's compatible with CZ Scorpion EVO 3 magazines and uses an administrative system similar to AR-15 rifles, making it familiar to Thai military personnel.
